Mathematics Study Program Holds Programming Workshop Featuring Experts from UNY and SES Germany
The Mathematics Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Technology, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, held a Programming Workshop on Monday, 17 November 2025. The event took place at the Mathematics Laboratory, Integrated Laboratory Building of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, and was attended by students from the Mathematics Study Program across various cohorts.
The workshop was officially opened by the Head of the Mathematics Study Program, Dr. Epha Diana Supandi, M.Sc. In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of programming skills for students in the rapidly evolving technological landscape. “Students must be able to keep up with the development of programming to strengthen their competencies in mathematics and its applications,” she stated.
The workshop featured two invited speakers. The first speaker, Dr. Dwi Lestari, M.Sc. from Yogyakarta State University (UNY), delivered a session titled “Python Programming for Mathematical Modeling.” In this session, participants were introduced to fundamental Python concepts, essential libraries for numerical analysis, and the implementation of programming in various mathematical modeling contexts. The material was delivered interactively, allowing students to directly practice the code provided.
The second speaker, Prof. Dr. Axel Kilian from the Senior Expert Service (SES), Germany, presented a topic entitled “Introduction to Mathematica Software.” He introduced key features of Mathematica and demonstrated how the software can be used for visualization, symbolic computation, and solving advanced mathematical problems. Students showed great enthusiasm throughout the demonstrations.
Through this workshop, students gained valuable insights and enhanced skills in utilizing programming technologies as tools to support their mathematical studies. The event concluded with an engaging discussion and Q&A session between participants and the speakers.
