Curriculum Review for the Undergraduate and Master's Programs in Mathematics Involves Experts, Alumni, and Students
The Undergraduate (Bachelor's) Program in Mathematics and the Master's Program in Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, held a Curriculum Review Workshop on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the Faculty Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, FST Building.
The curriculum review was organized as part of the continuous quality improvement process to ensure that the curricula remain relevant to the rapid development of mathematics, science, technology, industry needs, and higher education policies. The activity also reflects the programs' commitment to producing graduates equipped with strong academic foundations and professional competencies that meet the expectations of stakeholders.
The workshop brought together faculty members from both the Undergraduate and Master's Programs in Mathematics, as well as representatives of students and alumni. The participation of these stakeholders provided valuable perspectives for evaluating the existing curriculum and identifying areas for further enhancement.
To enrich the discussion, the programs invited Dr. Indarsih, S.Si., M.Si., Secretary of the Master's Program in Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, as the external curriculum expert. Drawing on her extensive experience in curriculum development, Dr. Indarsih shared valuable insights on designing an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum, aligning graduate learning outcomes with current academic and professional demands, and strengthening the curriculum structure to better address future challenges in mathematics and its applications.
During the discussion session, Dr. Indarsih emphasized the importance of developing a curriculum that not only complies with the National Standards for Higher Education but also anticipates future developments in mathematical sciences, technological innovation, and workforce requirements. She also provided constructive recommendations regarding the alignment of graduate learning outcomes, curriculum mapping, course sequencing, and the enhancement of competencies in analytical thinking, computational skills, research, and problem-solving.
The alumni also contributed valuable feedback based on their professional experiences and further studies. They highlighted the importance of strengthening students' digital competencies, increasing exposure to mathematical software and computational tools, improving scientific communication skills, and equipping graduates with practical competencies that support career readiness.
Meanwhile, student representatives shared their perspectives on the implementation of the current curriculum. They suggested enhancing project-based learning, providing more contextual learning experiences, and strengthening the integration between theoretical concepts and real-world applications of mathematics across various disciplines.
The interactive discussions enabled participants to exchange ideas and formulate constructive recommendations for curriculum improvement. The feedback gathered from faculty members, the external expert, alumni, and students will serve as an essential foundation for refining the curricula of both the Undergraduate and Master's Programs in Mathematics.
Through this curriculum review initiative, the Mathematics Programs of the Faculty of Science and Technology, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta reaffirm their commitment to continuous quality enhancement by developing innovative, adaptive, and stakeholder-responsive curricula. The revised curricula are expected to produce highly competent graduates who are academically excellent, professionally competitive, and well-prepared to contribute to the advancement of mathematics, science, and society.
