Textbook Development Workshop for Mathematics Lecturers
The Mathematics Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, held a Textbook Development Workshop on Monday, December 1, 2025. All Mathematics study program lecturers participated in the workshop. The keynote speaker was Prof. Setia Pramana, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., a leading academic from the Statistics Polytechnic of STIS with extensive experience in writing and developing textbooks in statistics and applied mathematics. His presence provided new insights and a comprehensive understanding of the standards for developing high-quality, systematic teaching materials that meet the needs of modern learning. Although the workshop was conducted online via Zoom, the lecturers gathered in the Meeting Room of the Faculty of Science and Technology to participate in a coordinated and conducive environment.
The workshop began with remarks by the Head of the Mathematics Study Program, Dr. Epha Diana Supandi, M.Sc. In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of textbook development by each lecturer as part of improving the quality of learning and meeting academic standards in the university environment. He also encouraged lecturers to actively collaborate and develop teaching materials that are not only informative but also contextual and relevant to scientific developments.
In his presentation, Prof. Setia Pramana explained various principles of textbook writing, from content structure, determining learning outcomes, presenting examples and exercises, to aspects of style and notational consistency. He also emphasized the importance of integrating technology and data visualization in modern mathematics textbooks to support a more interactive learning process.
The workshop was interactive through discussion and a question-and-answer session, where lecturers enthusiastically asked various questions related to their experiences in textbook development, reference selection, and collaborative writing strategies. This productive atmosphere is expected to encourage the development of more quality textbooks for use in the Mathematics Study Program.
Through this workshop, lecturers are expected to gain new skills and motivation in developing more effective, engaging, and student-centered teaching materials. The workshop concluded with the hope that similar programs can continue to be implemented to strengthen the academic culture and advance the quality of education within the Faculty of Science and Technology, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.
