Public Lecture Featuring SES Germany Expert: Exploring Mathematics, Computation, and Scientific Visualization in the Digital Era

The Mathematics Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, held a Public Lecture on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Convention Hall of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The event was attended by all Mathematics students and lecturers, making it one of the largest academic events of the semester.

The event opened with remarks from the Head of the Mathematics Study Program, Dr. Epha Diana Supandi, M.Sc. In her remarks, she emphasized that current mathematical developments are inseparable from advances in computing. "Students need to keep up with computing developments to broaden their competencies and be ready to face the challenges of the digital era," she said.

The public lecture featured a single speaker, Prof. Dr. Axel Kilian from the Senior Expert Service (SES) Germany, who presented a topic entitled "Mathematics, Computation, and Scientific Visualization in the Digital Era." All presentations were delivered in English. In her presentation, Prof. Kilian reviewed how modern mathematics plays a crucial role in the development of digital technology, particularly in scientific computing, data visualization, and mathematical model-based analysis. He also presented various real-world application examples to provide participants with a realistic picture.

The event was moderated by Dea Iswari, an active student in the Mathematics Study Program, who fluently guided the proceedings from the introductory session through to the discussion. The Q&A session demonstrated high enthusiasm. Many students actively asked questions directly to the speaker, all in English. The discussion was engaging and interactive, reflecting the students' readiness to engage in international scientific conversations. This public lecture is expected to broaden participants' understanding of the strategic role of mathematics in the digital world and motivate them to continue improving their computing and academic communication skills.
